TOPIC      Conducting Background Checks in the Age of the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018

PRESENTERS     Alison Davis, Littler

DETAILS    Effective April 11, 2019, the DC City Council imposed new obligations on Schools to conduct background checks and disclose information to prevent child sexual abuse.  This legislation adds to the web of laws governing the consideration of criminal records in employment decisions in DC, including the Fair Criminal Record Screening Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Criminal Background Checks for the Protection of Children Act of 2004 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Heads of School, Business Managers and Human Resource Professionals should attend this important training to understand the finer points of what is lawful and what is unlawful during the application and criminal history background check process. The presentation will explore considerations regarding policies, procedures, individual assessments and other documents related to the screening process (e.g., job applications, offer letters, guidelines for recruiters, etc.).

* This session is a repeat of the session on 11/12/19.
