Charter Chat is published weekly by Friends of Choice in Urban Schools, better known as FOCUS, a nonprofit organization that supports quality public charter schools in the District of Columbia. We hope that you find the resources and information in this e-newsletter useful.

Submission Instructions: The more submissions we have, the more useful this e-newsletter will be! Email us at charterchat@focusdc.org to submit youth-oriented and family-friendly events and resources to include in future newsletters with “for charter chat” in the subject line. Please submit entries in the format found in the newsletter below. Entries must be received by COB Monday to be included in the Wednesday edition that week. We generally include entries three weeks in advance of the event date, deadline, or activity start date. We may provide more lead-time for contests, scholarships, competitions, etc. where time for preparation is required.

WHO: E.L. Haynes Public Charter School
WHAT: Holiday Bazaar
WHEN: Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM
WHERE: In the garage at E.L. Haynes’ Georgia Avenue Campus at 3600 Georgia Avenue (Georgia and Otis St.) two blocks south of the Petworth Metro Station.
INFO: E.L. Haynes Public Charter School will be holding a Bazaar to raise funds for the school. The Bazaar will consist of three aspects, a bake sale, a yard sale, and a craft sale. These are not only crafts made by kids, but art and crafts made by the parents and friends of Haynes students, some of whom are artists earning their livelihoods through their work.

WHAT: Inspired Teaching Demonstration School is hosting its 1st ANNUAL WINTERFEST
** HOLIDAY TREE SALE ** BOOK FAIR ** PARENT INFO SESSIONS ** BAKE SALE ** MUSIC ** AND MORE ....
WHEN: Saturday December 3rd & Sunday December 4th 9am to 6pm (or until dark)
WHERE: 4401 8th Street, NE Washington, DC 20017 Playground and Multipurpose Room (1st Floor)

DETAILS: Come buy your holiday trees while supporting a public school. Buy a few books for your kids, nephews/nieces or friends’ kids before the holidays. There will be warm cocoa and coffee while you shop and plenty of fresh homemade baked goods to snack on or save for your parties.All proceeds to benefit Inspired Teaching School library.Open House and Info Sessions for prospective parents at 10am & 4pm both days. Come and see what Inspired Teaching's philosophy and approach are all about! Current parents will be there to answer your questions as well. Everyone is welcome. Share the word!

DETAILS: Are you looking for ways to interact and stimulate your infant or toddler’s growth and development? Strong Start, DC Early Intervention Program, is proud to present Development Play Groups for children from 6 months to 3 years of age. These play groups are designed to foster communication, cognitive, social, and motor development skills. If your child is currently part of the D.C. Early Intervention Program or if you have a typically developing child who you would like to participate, spaces are available at all locations. WHAT: The Children’s Theater Workshop at The Performing Arts Training Studio is partnering with Knock On Wood Tap studios for a four day winter break camp.
WHO: Students in grades 3rd - 6th will have a fun-filled four day creativity camp with acting, movement and costume design. Students will culminate the winter break camp with a short performance on the final day at 3:30pm.
